Who is Transformational Defense Industries (TDI)?
TDI is a US corporation
based in Virginia Beach, VA and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gamma Applied
Visions Group SA based in Switzerland.
TDI's mission is to bring innovative new technologies to market in the CIV/LE
and MIL small-arms and defense electronics markets.
TDI's management team consists of professionals
with many years of military, defense and international business experience and
is supported by its own world-leading small-arms R&D center using state of
the art design, engineering, testing, evaluation and rapid prototyping
capabilities to bring KRISS-based weapons to market quickly.
TDI introduced its first prototype of the KRISS Super V System (KSVS) in the
form of the KRISS Vector XSMG at SHOT Show in January, 2007. Designed to
demonstrate the patented capabilities of the KRISS System to deliver previously
impossible reductions in the levels of felt-recoil and barrel elevation, the
KRISS XSMG .45ACP has quite literally set the automatic weapons world on its
ear. The KRISS Vector SMG has been further developed, in cooperation with
the US Army ARDEC at Picatinny Arsenal, to a military readiness level of TRL
7.0 as is now available for full T&E by qualified MIL and LE units here in
the US and abroad.
TDI has also received government funding to adapt a version of the KRISS System
to a .50 HMG platform and has met or exceeded every goal of reducing theoretical
peak impulse loads by 95% and total system weight by 40%.
Finally, TDI will introduce an entire family of KRISS-based weapons at SHOT
Show in February, 2008 consisting of the all new .45 ACP KRISS Vector CRB/SO,
an ATF-approved semi-auto version of the KRISS Vector SMG; the KRISS Vector
CRB, an all-new 50-State "black rifle" version of the KRISS CRB/SO
also in .45ACP and the all new KRISS MVS Shotgun 12ga., which will represent
the same quantum leap forward in the auto-loader shotgun market as the KRISS
SMG has in the machine gun market.
What is the KRISS Super V System and why was it invented?
The KSVS is a major re-think and re-design of the way in which a semi-and automatic weapon operating systems should work—a design challenge that hasn’t been successfully addressed since the invention of the Maxim machine gun more than 120 years ago.
Any caliber semi-or fully-automatic weapon, firing any size of cartridge (from .223 to .50 and larger), generates tremendous levels of energy in the form of gas. This gas, while often used to energize the weapon’s operating system, due to its tremendous force has required the use of very heavy mechanisms…..mechanisms that are not only much heavier than they need be, but also operate in a linear, fore-and-aft reciprocating manner.
The very undesirable by-products of this combination are: Weapons that are heavier than need be; weapons that generate tremendous amount of direct-felt recoil and amounts of muzzle climb thus reducing operator accuracy; and weapons that are more complex and expensive to build and maintain than need be.

How does the KRISS Super V System Work?
The KSVS overcomes the shock-creating effects of the recoil gas by re-directing the gas’s energy down and away from the traditional “straightline” design that creates so much felt-recoil and muzzle climb.
The KSVS, in addition to “re-vectoring” the forces of the recoil, also reduces muzzle climb by activating a counter-balancing mass that further absorbs shock and re-directs forces that would otherwise create muzzle climb, thus compounding the operator’s ability to consistently put rounds on-target whether through single-fire, multi-round burst or full automatic firing. Due to the fewer and lighter weight components, the KRISS is able to fire at extremely high rates of fire (1100-1500 should the application so warrant), however, the ROF can be easily adjusted to more common rates (650-700) through minor adjustments to the mechanism.
Because of its unique design, the KRISS technology significantly reduces both the number and weight of the moving parts of the mechanism. By reducing the mass of the slider and bolt and re-directing their movement, KRISS provides a lighter-weight operating system (as well as overall weapon) that in addition to the reduction of recoil and muzzle climb, can be handled for longer periods of time—and more accurately—by the operator.

What are the benefits KRISS Super V System?
The KSVS is the only
weapon operating system in the world that actually helps the operator put more
rounds on-target, more of the time.
Traditional weapons operating systems actually work against the
operator; these systems create recoil and barrel elevation forces that require
the operator to constantly recapture his sight picture.
Instead, by re-vectoring these forces, the patented KSVS works with the
shooter by helping keep the muzzle exactly where the operator points it.
No recapturing or reacquiring of sight picture is needed.
Here are just a few of the most important benefits:
- Higher operator efficiency: In other words, more rounds on-target more of the time. Great lethal speed and less burst dispersion mean a more effective operator. This unprecedented controllability is achieved through a combination of significant reductions in felt-recoil and muzzle climb, reduced weight, compactness of frame and reduction in the number of moving parts.
Not only is the operator able to gain greater effect from his shooting, but his ability to keep the weapon in-service has been addressed by a simple mechanism that is not only easy to learn, but markedly easier to field strip and clean than any other mechanism. This also means shorter training cycles, longer retention of the operator’s efficiency along with higher operational availability of weapon and operator and lower operating costs.
- Portability of design: The KRISS technology can be easily adapted to any size caliber and any type of platform. Thus, KRISS becomes a highly efficient system that provides significant operating benefits in a multitude of applications. This will significantly reduce training and maintenance cycles.
- Cost-effectiveness: With extensive production analysis work done and with simplicity a design requirement, TDI believes that weapons using the KRISS technology will be highly cost efficient in production quantities due to the elegant simplicity of the mechanism and its fewer moving parts. Most certainly, any weapon produced with the KRISS technology will provide a higher ROI than any other type of operating system when factoring production, up-time, training requirements and parts costs.
Why are the initial KRISS
Vector SMG's and CRB's only available in .45ACP; and, will there be other
calibers?
In order to prove the
viability of the KSVS, TDI elected to prototype the first KRISS weapon
in a SMG platform and in .45ACP. This platform and caliber allowed TDI to
demonstrate how the KSVS could be executed in the world's smallest and lightest
SMG while firing the very robust .45ACP pistol round at a high ROF with
never-before levels of controllability.
In addition, TDI's analysis of the changing profiles of today's LE and MIL
missions, which are increasing vehicle-borne (mechanized) and in urban/CQB
environments, indicates a growing need for a light, highly maneuverable weapon
that can clear a room quickly and safely (with no danger of collateral damage
from high-velocity rifle round over-penetration) while still being able to fire
accurately in stand-off encounters at up to 100 meters. In addition, TDI
views the growth trend in adoption of the .45 round by LE/MIL and the CIV
markets as one that will continue to accelerate.
TDI has plans in place, once the family of .45ACP weapons is launched in
2008, to begin work on 9mm, .357Sig and .40S&W versions of the CIV/LE
and MIL weapons.
How reliable is the KRISS Super V System?
Very.
Because of its simple design, the KSVS delivers very high levels of
reliability. The KSVS consists of a small number of large and robust
moving parts that are extremely easy for the operator to remove, perform
routine cleaning and re-install in seconds.
The KRISS Vector SMG and its CIV counterpart, the KRISS CRB's, were developed
in cooperation with the US Army's ARDEC Picatinny Arsenal and with the input
from Special Operations personnel and other CT/CI operators from around the
world to provide the QRD (quality, reliability and durability) and performance
required in the most demanding conditions imaginable.
Over 2.5 years of testing, more than 60,000 rounds have been fired through the
SMG and CRB weapons with NO major failures and the SMG has achieved
industry-leading levels of mean rounds between stoppages (MRBS).

When will the weapon be available for sale?
The production KRISS Super V Vector CRB/SO, SBR/SO and SMG models will be available in mid-May, 2008. The civilian CRB/SO model will be available where legal only through KRISS Certified Dealers. The civilian SBR/SO model will be available where legal through those KRISS Certified Dealers having FFL Class 3 licenses or directly from TDI. The KRISS Super V Vector SMG is available for qualified LE and MIL unit T&E and purchase now via KRISS Certified Dealers having FFL Class 3 licenses or directly from TDI.
